GM India to Expand Halol Plant's Production Capacity - Asian Cars

Time changes, so do the operations. Yes the Halol plant of GM India is the perfect example of this phenomenon, which was started with a press shop and now has become an integrated manufacturing plant. To further expand its activities, GM India is planning to increase its annual installed capacity from 85,000 units to 1.10 lakh units. The all new Enjoy MPV from GM’s Shanghai Automotive Industries Corp (SAIC) platform is projected to be rolled out from Halol plant in next few months, so company needs to increase its facility, said P. Balendran, company’s Vice-President (Corporate Communication).

 
If reports are to believed, GM has 91 percent shareholding in the joint venture with SAIC, moving ahead to regain complete control. As per a company’s statement, it is clear that GM has invested over USD 1 billion in India so far. Balendran also said that after launching Chevy Sail U-VA hatchback, company is all set to introduce new sedan model of Sail by next month, taking a total count of new launches this year to six.

 
This year sales graph was quite disappointing as company could manage to sell only around 78,100 units till October end as compared to 1,11,510 units sales last year. However, in Gujarat, company expects to sell 10,000 units by this year end against the 11,500 units sold last year. Though market has been very sluggish and is still on the same verge, but company hopes to sell 4,000 units per month from next year, said Balendran.
