Maruti Suzuki India is now fully geared up to start its operations in Gujarat plant, approval for which has already been taken by the board. Speeding up its journey from Hamamatsu to Hansalpur via Haryana, country’s largest carmaker Maruti will invest around Rs. 4,000 crore in the development of Gujarat plant. In August 2012, first instalment payment of Rs. 22 crore has been done for the 640 acres of land agreed to company at Hansalpur in Ahmedabad. A total of eight instalments of around Rs.175 crore will be made with Rs. 673 per square metre purchase price.
On the issue, Gujarat Chief minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Japan conversed with top officials of Suzuki Motor Corp to scale up capacity at the Gujarat plant and fasten the project work. The work of building outer wall of the suggested plant has already been contracted with L&T. While L &T official have denied commenting on the issue, M M Singh, chief operating officer (production), MSIL said that details of the project are still need to be planned.
According to Chief operating officer (administration) S Y Siddiqui, the task of building the plant will be started next year, though earlier senior MSIL officials, including chairman R C Bhargava told that due to sluggish market conditions, the plant would not start its functioning before 2016. As per few company sources, Maruti is aspiring to roll out its all new diesel engines from Gujarat. Moreover, development of a small two-cylinder 800cc diesel engine is underway in Japan and after its accomplishment; the project will arrive in India.
