In an effort to improve quality assurance and ensure overall customer satisfaction, Nissan has officially hired former Consumer Reports Auto Test Center Senior Director, David Champion. Champion will fill the newly created position of executive adviser, competitive assessment and quality.
Prior to moving into the world of publishing, Champion worked at Nissan from 1994 to 1997 as a quality assurance engineer, so the move shouldn’t be too unfamiliar to him. However, the automaker is in a very different place now than in the 1990s. Sales are growing and the popularity of several products (i.e. the Juke, Altima, and even the GT-R) are luring more consumers into showrooms.
“We wish David Champion all the best as he moves on to pursue a new opportunity and we’re grateful for his contribution to the organization,” said Liam McCormack, Vice President, Technical Director, for Consumer Reports, after Champion’s departure was announced. “He has helped transform Consumer Reports’ Auto Testing operations during his 15 years here and become an influential voice in the autos space. We are especially proud of his tireless work to promote auto safety and helping make the nation’s roads safer.”
At Nissan, Champion will move to Arizona, where he will setup shop at Nissan’s Arizona Testing Center. The facility is responsible for rigorously testing Nissan vehicles for hot weather, heat durability, engine cooling and air conditioner performance, among other tests.
“David Champion’s unique industry background will help ensure that the customer’s voice is evident in every product we engineer,” said Carla Bailo, senior vice president, research and development. “His experience in developing robust testing methods will help Nissan keep pace with the increasing complexity of our products and stay focused on continually improving our customer satisfaction ratings.”
