With this overwhelming salary hike, Maruti Gurgaon employees have become highest paid workers in the manufacturing sector of the country.
As per Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union general secretary Kuldeep Janghu, it is the highest –ever hike in 30 years journey of Maruti. The workers union has signed an agreement with management where medical benefits are doubled for all the workers and even new technicians will be appointed on 2 years probation against the earlier 3 years probation period, he added. The average hike in first year will work to be nearly 14,500 a month and wages would be given with effect from April 2012. Rest would be paid as arrears in the October and November payouts.
A senior executive of Maruti said that Gurgaon is going to be very expensive in coming time, so as to adjust the probability for next three years; company has decided to cordially settle for a remunerative hike. Moreover Rs. 20,000 interest-free loan for its employees and a monthly travelling allowance of 1,200 for each worker have also been placed in the list. Besides this, Maruti aims to appoint a major portion of its temporary workers into its permanent workforce, though Manesar plant workers would have to wait for some more time.
As far as profitability of Maruti is concerned, it is likely to be gouged in short-term. An analysis proved that it may be affected by 2-3% in current quarter. The manpower cost of company has shoot by a big margin in recent years. It is increased by 33% to 238 crore in 2nd quarter and now the manesar plant’s lock out along with higher wages could increase its overall cost by 5-8%.
