As Japanese auto giant calls off all the future plans, it clearly announces that it will not be continuing the business venture with Bajaj Auto on the low-cost car, as remarked by Toru Hasegawa – Nissan’s corporate vice-president, Africa, Middle East and India.
The project planned by Nissan and Bajaj Auto was to develop an ultra low-cost car for India. Basically Bajaj was assigned to design and develop the vehicle for Nissan and its global partner Renault. The Renault-Nissan alliance and Bajaj Auto signed an agreement in year 2009 to work on small car project. It was decided that Bajaj would manufacture the low-cost car and the Japanese-French automaker will sell the vehicle under their brand name. But later things turned sour and the project was dwarfed in time.
At the launch event of Nissan Evalia yesterday, the corporate vice-president, Africa, Middle East and India at Nissan, Toru Hasegawa exclaimed, “There is no ultra low-cost car coming from our stable as we will not be continuing our relationship with Bajaj Auto.” Though, the VP did not reveal any particular reason for quitting the decision and breaking the tie-up with Bajaj Auto.
