Honda has made big plans for India and plans to regain its lost market share in the country. The Japanese automaker plans to launch a slew of compact cars in the coming years, which will be volume players for the company. Honda recently revealed its plans to delay the launch of the next generation Civic and Accord in the Indian market, as the company doesn’t have Indian specific diesel engines for these cars. Both the Civic and Accord are brought in via the CKD route.

However the next generation Honda CR-V won’t be delayed and is already on test in India. The CR-V is brought in as a CBU and thus Honda doesn’t have to invest much in bringing the latest CR-V to India. These pictures were snapped at Noida, sporting test plates. Honda’s corporate head quarters is in Noida and we can expect the new CR-V to be launched early next year. The CR-V competes with the Mitsubishi Outlander while all other rivals are powered by frugal diesel engines.
The fourth generation Honda CR-V will be powered by an updated 2.4-litre petrol engine, which produces 188 BHP of power and 240 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic tranmission and Honda claims a 10% increase in mileage over the previous model. Unfortunately there will be no diesel engine in the CR-V any time soon even though the European CR-V gets a 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine producing 120 BHP and 300 Nm. The new Honda CR-V is expected to be priced around Rs. 28 lakhs (ex-showroom).
