With the recurring hike in the fuel prices, the car owners are left with the option to develop a decent fuel economy. To combat with the fuel prices hike, you can follow the given tips to improve the fuel efficiency of your car: -
1) Use low grade fuel: Most often, fuel attendants convince the car owners to go for high grade fuels like “Xtra – Premium”, “Speed” etc. It is not sure whether these fuel grades would increase the fuel efficiency of your car, therefore, always get the normal fuel added in your car. Adding high octane fuel is not only the wastage of money, but also it can hamper the performance of car engine. For better engine performance and fuel economy, try to stick with one fuel brand.
2) Proper car maintenance: Proper maintenance of your car plays most important role in providing better fuel economy. You should always get your car serviced at regular intervals, as per the manufacturer’s instruction. The regular service check up of your car keeps your safe and incurs lesser cost of maintenance. The air filters of your car should be cleaned at regular intervals to avoid any sort of dust coating, as dirty filters might have adverse affect on engine, walls and piston.
3) Proper tyre pressure : For better fuel economy, always ensure that the tyres of your car are properly inflated. Tyres with lesser air-pressure, require more energy to roll, hence you should always maintain the air-pressure in the tyres to enhance the performance of your car. If your car is carrying any extra weight in the boot, remove it, this will make the tyres to roll quite easily. As per the Department of Energy (DOE) statistics, extra weight of 45 kg, low downs the mileage upto 2 percent.
4) Slow down : The faster you drive, the less is the fuel efficiency. Always drive slowly as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Driving 8 kph above the speed limit can have an impact on the fuel economy of your car by 23%. Similarly, high acceleration consumes more fuel, therefore, ensure accelerating gradually and in a limit.
