GM announces two recalls covering 15,575 vehicles - Latest Cars News

The first recalls covers Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Sonic models from the 2012 model year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 2,949 of those vehicles may have left the factory with an air bag fault.

A NHTSA investigation found that the side frontal air bag in those vehicles has a shorting bar which could come in contact with the air bag terminals. If that event occurs during a crash, the driver's side air bag won't deploy, increasing the likelihood of injury.

In a separate recall, GM is recalling 12,626 Cadillac XTS models over a head restraint issue. The NHTSA found that the XTS' rear seat head restraints may not lock in the upright position after being folded forward, and thus are not compliant with federal regulations.

The NHTSA notes that lowered headrest could increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

GM has not yet released a recall schedule for the air bag issue, but the automaker has already begun the Cadillac XTS recall campaign.
