2014 Ford Transit Connect Borrows Escape Styling

Ford has finally decided to take the covers off of the all-new 2014 Transit Connect recently at an event in Amsterdam. The pint-sized van is finally getting a redesign after 10 years of service, and with it brings new powertrains, more useful features, and even more attractive styling.

The new Ford Transit Connect will ride on an entirely new platform — the same one used in the current global Focus and Escape model ranges. Similar styling cues from those two models are also carried over into the Transit Connect, including a new hexagonal lower grille opening and a handsomely sculpted front fascia.

“These new products will carry more, work harder, last longer, and cost our customers less to operate – just as Ford Transits have done for 47 years,” said Barb Samardzich, vice president Product Development, Ford of Europe. “The unprecedented launch of two all-new Transit models will extend Ford’s leadership in serving commercial vehicle customers around the world.”

When the 2014 Transit Connect arrives in North America, buyers can choose between two engine choices starting with the base 2.5-liter inline four cylinder unit producing as much as 170 horsepower. Buyers will also be able to opt for a 1.6-liter EcoBoost four cylinder engine. Expect both engines will be paired only with six-speed automatic transmissions. Regardless, the Blue Oval says that the Transit Connect’s line of powertrains will offer the latest low-CO2 powertrain technologies to deliver best-in-class fuel economy in all of its target markets.

“Our new global Ford Transit products will be totally fit for purpose,” said Samardzich. “These are the strongest, most capable and most efficient commercial vans we have ever built – this is the start of a new chapter in the Transit success story.”

European customers will be able to get their hands on a 2014 Ford Transit Connect in late 2013, so we’ll probably be able to see it in showrooms shortly thereafter. Stay tuned for official word on powertrain specifications, pricing and availability on this side of the pond.
