Subaru details redesigned 2014 Forester ahead of LA debut - Latest Cars News

Subaru details redesigned 2014 Forester ahead of LA debut
Visually, the fourth-generation Forester gains an entirely new front end that puts it in line with other members of the Subaru lineup. The rear end is fitted with sleeker tail lamps and a more sculpted hatch.

The CUV features a new A-pillar with a small window at the base that helps increase visibility, forcing the current car's pillar-mounted rear-view mirrors to migrate to the doors.

The next-gen Forester gets a significant platform upgrade but its overall footprint stays roughly the same. However, it has grown slightly in all dimensions, measuring 68.2 inches high, 70.7 inches wide and 180.9 inches long. It has a wheelbase of 103.9 inches.

While the entry-level engine is a carryover 2.5-liter flat-four with 170 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque, the Forester gains an all-new upgraded motor. Based on the mill found in the BRZ sports car, it's a 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four that produces 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of twist.

Transmission choices include a six-speed manual and a continuously variable transmission that should be far more efficient than the ancient four-speed automatic that it replaces. As with all other Subaru models except the BRZ, all-wheel drive comes standard.

The Forester's redrawn dashboard is quite similar to that of the Impreza. A new gauge cluster is also part of the package, giving the crossover's cabin a sportier look. Subaru promises more cargo space and extra legroom for rear-seat passengers.

After debuting in Los Angeles, the Forester will go on sale in the United States early next year. Pricing information will be released closer to its launch.
