The Czech based automobile manufacturer, Skoda is aiming to spread its arms in the country and this time it is eyeing Kerala market for network expansion. The automaker is now keen to establish three more dealerships in the state in the next one year, taking its total count to nine from current six outlets in the region. The plan was shared by Mr. Sudhir Rao, Managing Director of Skoda Auto India Pvt. Ltd.
Mr. Rao exclaimed, “In the next one year or so we will set up a new showroom at Kottayam, followed by Kollam and Kannur by year 2013. Kerala is a progressive market, which accounts for 1.5% of the nationwide sales and the same is likely to be increased by 5% this year.”
Skoda is very hopeful about Kerala as it aims to sell 1,500 units in the state this year as against to 500 units sold in year 2011. Mr. Rao mentioned that the company is targeting to attain 10% of the national sales volume from Kerala. With great luxury cars from Skoda Auto in India, Rapid accounts for 60% of the total local sales, thus becoming the most significant sedan model for the brand.
With wide network across India, Skoda owns total 106 dealerships and now wishes to touch a mark of establishing 150 outlets in the next three years. Mr. Rao expressed, “Skoda’s global annual sale is roughly around one million units and now its objective is to touch a sales count of 1.5 million cars by 2018. Therefore, now the target for domestic market India stands at 1.5 lakh car sales by 2018 from current figure of 35,000 – 40,000 units.”
