It rarely happens when one can witness peaceful relationships between union workers and a company otherwise it’s usual to see hullaballoo in industrial corridors of various products plants. Well as of now, this burning issue arises in Hyundai car plant, where Hyundai Motor India Employees Union has decided to initiate an agitation that will include a strike too. The protest is said to be for demanding recall of sacked workers and a long term wage agreement.
As per reports available, the Korean auto giant has entered in a 3 year wage agreement with another union (United Union of Hyundai Employees) and has denied recognition of Hyundai Motor India Ltd management, which is itself a registered union. According to union representatives, during course of agitation, demanding recognition in year 2008, many workers lost their jobs. Though most of them were recalled through the intervention of the State Government and the union but 27 workers are yet to be reminded.
Mr A Soundararajan, honorary president of the HMIEU said that to punish workers on similar ground but treat them differently is against the natural justice. And for the same, he will lead a peaceful agitation demanding the restoration of the dismissed workers but there will be no peace until workers get their job back. The union can arrange a strike if needed, he added.
