The Porsche Boxster has long been ideal driver’s car, but has existed somewhat in the 911’s shadow. However, the newly revamped Boxster has come into its own and is now able to emerge from its older brother’s shadow.
Thanks to its new chassis, a more refined interior, and more aggressive sheetmetal, the 2013 Boxster was just named Esquire’s Sports Car of the Year. Like its predecessors, it features a mid-mounted six-cylinder engine to improve balance and cornering ability. Tweaks to the suspension and chassis have also made it a far more confident performer than before.
Under the hood resides a 2.7-liter flat six cranking out 265-horsepower. But more power isn’t the only notable improvement in this third generation Boxster. A longer, lower and wider chassis not only helps improvement handling, but it’s also 77 pounds lighter than the outgoing model.
For a whole helluva lot of fun, the 2013 Porsche Boxster can be yours for $50,450. When compared to the 911, which costs about twice as much, the Boxster is a stellar value for incredible performance, a staccato aria of an exhaust note, and even a surprising amount luxury. And, there’s even a back seat.
