"I have made myself unpopular before by saying this, but I do not believe that electric vehicles have a mainstream application in the foreseeable future," said Jacoby in an interview with England's Autocar magazine. The former executive explained that pure EVs have too many setbacks that drivers are simply not willing to accept. These include the battery packs, which lose their ability to hold a full charge as they age, and the limited driving range offered by most EVs. "Think how you feel when your mobile phone runs out of charge and there's nothing you can do : the feeling of sitting in a car that has run out of charge would be much worse," explained Jacoby. Instead of adopting electric technology, Jacoby believes that the auto industry will gradually shift towards gasoline- and diesel-electric hybrid vehicles that emit very little CO2 without being limited in range. /* @Himanshu 09-01-2013
