After a series of leaks, Jeep has formally revealed its 2014 Cherokee ahead of its official debut next month at the New York International Auto Show. Up front, the Liberty-replacement is in for a radical design, with cat-like headlights flanking a creased version of Jeep's iconic seven-slat grille. The bumper of the Cherokee incorporates two-banks of driving lights, not unlike the design of the Nissan Juke. The lower fascia, meanwhile, is clearly derivative of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. So far, Jeep has only released images of the Limited grade, which features copious amounts of chrome "bling." Images leaked earlier have included a few snaps of the Cherokee's interior, and we're happy to report that it looks like Jeep designers actually spent some quality time on the SUV's cabin. A large screen dominates the Cherokee's center stack, with the overall look reminiscent of the larger Grand Cherokee. Not surprisingly, the automaker's now-ubiquitous 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system will be available, as will a large TFT screen located in the instrument cluster. Jeep is remaining mum on just what engines will power the new Cherokee, but rumors have long pointed to a 1.4-liter, Fiat-sourced turbo four-cylinder, a 2.4-liter Chrysler-engineered four-cylinder and a 3.2-liter V6 based on the automaker's widely-used 3.6-liter mill. Jeep has stated that the Cherokee will boast a 45 percent improvement in fuel economy over the outgoing Liberty, which could mean up to 32 mpg for a front-wheel-drive model (four-wheel-drive will be optional). The new Cherokee will ride on a ruggedized version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta's platform, which means that it will feature unibody construction and four-wheel independent suspension. Like its Liberty and Cherokee predecessors, the new model will be built in Toledo, Ohio. After debuting in late March at the New York show, the Cherokee will go on sale during the third quarter of 2013. /* @Himanshu 09-01-2013
