Positioned right in the middle of the Škoda lineup, the 2013 Octavia wagon rides on Volkswagen's new modular MQB platform. It is 3.5 inches longer and 1.7 inches wider than its predecessor, dimensions that enable it to offer 21 cubic feet of trunk space while carrying five adults or 61 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat. Visually, the family-oriented Octavia borrows a sizable dose of styling cues from the smaller Rapid sedan that debuted last September in Paris. Llike its hatchback counterpart, it gains Škoda's new corporate face which gives it a more dynamic look than the outgoing second-gen model. Inside, the simple and uncluttered dashboard is an unmistakable nod towards the car's German origins. To woo customers, Škoda has packed the Octavia full to the brim with the latest technology including adaptive cruise control and the company's new KESSY keyless start system. Later in the production run the Octavia will inaugurate Škoda's first-ever traffic sign recognition system. Keeping in line with the brand's "Simply Clever" motto, the Octavia comes with a small garbage bin located in the driver's door panel, a warming coat holder hidden under the driver's seat and an ice scraper mounted inside the filler cap. Unsurprisingly, Škoda will offer the car with a wide range of Volkswagen-sourced four-cylinder engines, including a 140-horsepower 1.4-liter TSI and a new 2.0-liter turbodiesel that has an output of 150 horsepower. Buyers will be able to choose between a manual and an automatic gearbox. Although entry-level models will come with front-wheel drive, more expensive trim levels will usher in a new Haldex-designed all-wheel drive system. After debuting in Geneva, the third generation Škoda Octavia Estate will arrive in showrooms across Europe before the end of next summer. /* @Himanshu 09-01-2013
