Faulty oil pumps lead BMW to recall M5, M6 - Auto Industry News - LatestCarsWallpapers.com

The automaker says that a "manufacturing error" can cause the oil pump's driveshaft to separate from the rotor : a situation can lead to plummeting oil pressure and complete motor failure.

The affected vehicles include a total of 696 M5 sedan and M6 coupe and convertible models from the 2013 model year that were built from July 19, 2012 through September 11, 2012 . BMW dealers will replace the oil pump free of charge, and BMW expects that the recall will be completed by the end of October.

While the recall is just now being made formal, the issue was actually discovered last month. BMW moved quickly to issue a stop-sale and told owners to stop driving their vehicles until the necessary repairs are performed.
