The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into Honda Odyssey minivans and Pilot SUVs from the 2003 and 2004 model years over a possible defect that could lead to a rollaway accident. According to the NHTSA, the mechanism designed to keep the key locked in the ignition cylinder of 2003-04 model year Odysseys and Pilots can fail, allowing the key to be removed before the vehicle is placed in park. If the mechanism fails, drivers can accidentally remove the key before securely parking the vehicle, increasing the likelihood of a rollaway event. So far the NHTSA has received 43 complaints about the alleged defect, including 16 crashes. Two of those crashes resulted in injuries, although no deaths have been reported. In all the probe covers about 577,000 vehicles. The NHTSA is decided whether to elevate the probe to a full-on recall. Source: Leftlanenews
