Localization is becoming quite common phenomenon in Indian car industry as it actually reduces the import duty on cars resulting in lower prices to customers. Well it is time when BMW’s rivals need to be cautious as the luxury auto giant has announced its plans to start assembling its entry level 1 Series of hatchbacks at Chennai by the end of 2013.
With an aim to capture and same time to maintain number one position in Indian market, BMW has a series of plans for the country. After launching its first ever four door Gran Coupe in its history, company is also geared up to start local assembly of the flagship 7-series by the middle of next year. The all new Gran Coupe is available with all dealerships across the country and deliveries will start from November 2012 onwards at Rs. 86, 40,000 (all-India ex-showroom price)
Commenting on the issue, Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW India said that few of 7 series cars are being offered in India as completely built units, while the 3 and 5 Series cars along with X1 and X3 are produced here only. BMW’s CKD products range will wrap all prospects pertinent to it and to maintain its leadership position, company will focus more on strategy formulation and proper anticipation of market as well, he added.
Elaborating the secrets of success graph of BMW, Sahr said that despite of an exceptional price war witnessed this year; BMW stands still in the competition and will have no intention to lose the grounds. After selling 7,389 units from Jan-October, the company expects to surpass last year’s count of 9371 units by December end. With an expectation to hike its products prices, BMW will also take dealerships numbers in the country from 27 to 40 by the end of this year.
