The first show, dubbed Discover Toyota, aired this past Sunday, October 7. There were three airings, at noon, 4:00PM, and 9:00PM, EST. Toyota was the first automaker to appear on HSN in its 30-year existence. The show took an in-depth look at Toyota's hybrids, with hosts Micah Muzio of KBB.com and Tara Weingarten of Vroomgirls.com having a back-and-forth with HSN hosts Marlo Smith and Brett Chuckerman. It also pointed users to a dedicated site where viewers could indulge in activities, watch videos, and play a game, as well as answer a quiz. There were prizes to be won as well as sweepstakes for a chance to win the new Avalon Hybrid. This latest team-up is a sure sign of the ever-competitive new car marketplace and the new methods automakers are turning to in order to try and gain an edge. Whether Toyota has sold any more hybrids as a result of the promotion isn't known, but at least it will educate the typically older HSN audience about the technology involved in its hybrid vehicles.
