Tentatively called 686, the car takes the form of an open-top two-seater that is equipped with a carbon fiber body. The car shown in the pictures is still at the prototype stage and Ermini is working with Milan-based designer Giulio Cappellini to put the final touches on the design. Ermini did not specify what engine will power the car, saying only that it will be rear-mounted and that it will trace its origins to motorsports. That said, expect the 686 to use a relatively small-displacement turbocharged engine equipped with direct injection instead of a heavier large-displacement unit. Regardless of what lies under the hood, a dual-clutch sequential gearbox will send power to the rear set of wheels. Thanks to a favorable power-to-weight ratio, the Italian company claims that the 686 will be able to keep up with most modern supercars while returning reasonable gas mileage. "With this car, lovers of those uncompromising vintage sports cars with their distinctive dynamism, long since replaced by modern supercars, will finally be able to enjoy themselves," promises company chairman Eugenio Ercoli. Ermini hopes to show the production version of the 686 towards the end of 2013. Pricing information and production numbers will be released closer to the car's launch. Source: Leftlanenews
