It was thought that the Sorento would receive a mild mid-cycle update, but Kia has apparently gone a few steps further, claiming the new model is "a front-to-rear and top-to-bottom re-engineering of the car." Kia says the updated Sorento rides an all-new platform. Underneath the 2013 Sorento's admittedly familiar exterior looks resides a heavily updated body shell made of 25 percent high-strength steel. Kia has also added front, side and rear structures, resulting in an 18 percent increase in torsional stiffness. The 2013 Sorento's length and width remains unchanged from last year's model, but the revised SUV sits 10mm lower, which Kia says translates into a better on-road feel. Kia has also totally revamped the Soretno's steering and suspensions systems for a better driving experience. Although not radically different that the last-generation of the car, the new Sorento sports an updated front fascia with a new bumper and standard projection headlights and LED daytime running lamps. Outback the Sorento gets an all-new tailgate design. Intended to give the SUV a more up-scale look, the Sorento's rear end features new-look taillights and a bumper designed to match the look of the SUV's front-end. The European version of the Sorento is powered by a 2.2L diesel engine, so we'll have to wait until the LA show to find out about any powertrain updates for the U.S. market. The 2013 Kia Sorento will arrive in European showrooms in December, so it remains possible that we could see the new model in the U.S. before the end of 2012. Source: Leftlanenews
