That price includes a mandatory $795 destination charge and it applies to the six-speed manual version of the Dart.

All Dart Aeros include an otherwise-optional 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, lightened aluminum chassis components, low rolling resistance tires and a reduced-height suspension in addition to the aerodynamic bits. Dart Aero includes as standard a number of features that are optional on other trim levels including LED tail lamps, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and automatic head lamps. The automaker's 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system will be optional.

Dart Aero is rated by the EPA at 40 mpg on the highway with the optional six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and 41 mpg on the highway with the standard six-speed manual. Regardless of transmission, Dart Aero is rated at 28 mpg in the city and 32 mpg combined according to the EPA.

If you're keeping track of the compact car fuel economy wars, the automatic transmission model's highway fuel economy number puts it on par with the Mazda Mazda3 Skyactiv automatic sedan, the Ford Focus SE with the optional SFE package and all versions of the Hyundai Elantra. The Honda Civic HF, meanwhile, is rated at 41 mpg (standard Civics are rated at 39 mpg), while the six-speed manual Chevrolet Cruze Eco tops the class at 42 mpg (the Cruze Eco automatic is rated at 39 mpg).

Dodge is marketing the Dart Aero as a stand-alone model, although it already offers the active grille shutters and some underbody spoilers on SXT and Rallye models with the optional Popular Equipment Group package.

It's hard to place the Aero in the Dart lineup, but its $20,090 base price undercuts a similarly-optioned Dart SXT with the Popular Equipment Group and the turbocharged engine by about $500.
