Matt Farah on the Volvo C30 Polestar - Expensive Cars 2013

Just how hot is Volvo�s $35,000 hot-hatch? Matt Farah investigates. The Smoking Tire's Matt Farah has been keen to have a go on the C30 Polestar Edition ever since Volvo introduced back in September. Not to be confused with the one-off, 405-horsepower C30 Polestar Performance Concept that once visited Jay Leno's Garage, this is the commercially-available special edition model based on the front-drive C30 R-Design that the Swedish marque is limiting to 250 units in the US. So it's not quite as extreme as that one-off model, but it's still a sportier proposition than the base C30. Before taking #248 for a spin around the canyons to check out it's pocket-rocket credentials, Farah went to verify Volvo's output numbers at Hennessey Performance as he rightly suspected the 2.5-liter turbocharged 5-cylinder engine was putting out more than the claimed 250 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
