In a recent interview with Reuters, VW brand development chief Ulrich Hackenberg revealed that the company is seriously considering a new budget brand that would rival Renault's Dacia and Nissan's Datsun. The brand would be built and sold in China, but would also help VW establish a stronger foothold in emerging markets like India. "That's an issue we're currently looking at," Hackenberg said. VW is said to be targeting a price point between 5,000 and 10,000 euros ($6,700-$13,500). That would undercut VW's 9,850-euro Up!, which is currently the automaker's most modestly priced vehicle. In order to hit those price targets, VW's budget brand would likely use platforms that are already out of production or near the end of their life cycle, eliminating the need for a costly clean-slate design. The brand's initial lineup would include a van, sedan and wagon. /* @Himanshu 09-01-2013
