Honda will begin the layoff process during the second quarter of 2013. The cuts will "affect both office-based and production-based staff, but it is difficult [now] to see where that split will be," a Honda spokeswoman told Automotive News. The plant, which employs about 3,500 people, makes the Civic hatchback, Jazz and CR-V. The Swindon facility produced 166,000 vehicles last year, well below the factory's annual capacity of 250,000 cars. Despite the cuts, Honda say the plant's future car plans will not be impacted by the announcement. Swindon is scheduled to begin production of the Civic wagon and high-performance Civic Type R in 2014. Honda's European sales fell by about 6 percent last year, which was actually slightly better than the overall market's 7 percent decline. /* @Himanshu 09-01-2013
