Porsche to stop weekend production of sports cars at Zuffenhausen plant - Latest Cars Wallpapers

The company was building cars at the plant on Saturdays since September to fill orders of the new, 991-chassis 911 sports cars, according to AutoNews. The German automaker is also considering shortening the regular, eight-hour weekday shifts by one hour starting in January, said one source. The plant currently assembles about 170 vehicles per day from two shifts.

Over at the Leipzig factory that churns out 480 of the popular Cayenne SUVs, production is healthy and not planned on being reduced anytime soon. The smaller Macan SUV will begin production next year at Leipzig on a newly extended production line.

Other luxury automakers are also feeling the global crunch for luxury cars. Mercedes-Benz last month said it will cut production of the flagship S-Class sedan until the redesigned model arrives, while Audi stopped production at its Neckarsulm plant for a week where the A6, A7, A8 sedans and R8 sports car are built, along with the high-performance RS variants.
