Nismo Develops New GT3-Spec GT-R - Fast Cars News

Meet the ultimate incarnation of the twin-turbo Nissan GT-R. As awesome as the Nissan GT-R is in all respects, it wouldn't be the GT-R if it didn't go racing. Nissan fields competition versions of the supercar known as Godzilla in the Super GT series and formerly in the FIA GT1 World Championship, but powered by V8 engines instead of the GT-R's twin-turbo V6 and based on custom chassis, those racing cars have about as much to do with the GT-R as its competitors do. No, the real racing GT-R is the GT3 model, and the Japanese automaker's racing division Nismo has been hard at work developing the new 2013 model. Replacing the 2012 model introduced in March, the new 2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 benefits from lessons learned the hard way: on the track. After taking victories around the world, Nismo has optimized the engine's performance and durability and fine-tuning its aerodynamics, brake balance, suspension and gear ratios. Nismo revised the camshaft timing for the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and replaced all its moving parts, giving it 550 metric horsepower (in compliance with GT3 regulations). The advanced aero package now includes new winglets and enlarged fender lovers, with a repositioned rear wing for increased downforce and better balance. Customer racing teams can place their orders for the new Nismo GT-R from today, but a modification kit to bring the existing 2012 model up to 2013 specifications is also under development.
