The ELR will be built at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant, which also produces the Chevrolet Volt. GM is investing $35 million to prepare the factory to assemble the ELR. A production version of the well-received Converj concept car, the ELR is expected to use an updated version of the Volt's powertrain, which consists of a T-shaped lithium ion battery, an electric drive unit and a four-cylinder engine-generator. The ELR will likely boast a greater electric-only range and/or more power than its bowtie-adorned distant cousin. In addition to the ELR, Cadillac is poised to launch redesigned versions of its key CTS sedan and Escalade SUV models in 2013. The automaker has high hopes for its new lineup and believes that it will be "slugging it out" for the luxury brand sales title in the near future. "ELR will contribute mightily to the brand momentum of Cadillac, as it continues a big product push in the global luxury market," Reuss said in a statement. "These vehicle launches will be focused on one thing: delivering unheard of levels of innovation to our customers, innovation that will delight them and keep them coming back." div.post-content1 ul li { list-style:disc !important; margin-left:20px; color:#000000; } div.post-content1 ol li { list-style-type: decimal !important; margin-left:20px; color:#000000; } #editorial_graph ul li { list-style:none !important; margin-left:0px; } Source: Leftlanenews
