Mercedes SL by Renown Auto Style - Super Cars 2013

California-based tuning house reveals an extreme widebody kit and carbon-fiber trim package for the R230 Mercedes-Benz SL. Typically know for tuning Lamborghinis, Renown Auto Style has turned its hand this time to the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, creating a wide-body package dubbed the R230 Sidewinder. The package makes the roadster ten inches wider than the SL65 Black Series and an inch wider than a Murcielago. It consists of front and rear bumpers, hood, side skirts, front fenders, rear-quarter panels, trunk spats, rear diffuser, wheel well liners and a new water tank. A choice of 3-piece concave alloys include the 20" Renown RX10-C wheels featured here.

'67 Shelby GT500 Up for Auction - Super Cars 2013

One of the loweset-mileage original 1967 Shelby GT500s is heading to the auction block in a few weeks. There are still many original Shelby GT500s in existence today, but even in this highly sought-after company, this one is quite special. Set to hit the auction block early next month at the Barrett-Jackson event in Scottsdale, Arizona, is this 1967 Shelby GT500. What makes it special is that it's one of the lowest-mileage original '67 Shelby GT500s in the world, with just 9,841 miles on the clock. It's currently owned by a guy named Steve Becker, who just happens to be an expert on circa 1965-70 Shelby Mustangs.

DeLorean Time Machine Gets the Lego Treatment - Super Cars 2013

For any DeLorean and Lego fans out there, the "Back to the Future" Time Machine set series has finally arrived. It's about time. For many people, Legos represent a feeling of youthful nostalgia while others still continue to play with them well into adulthood. We consider ourselves in the latter group, and along with our love for anything "Back to the Future", we were especially excited when it was recently announced that a Lego DeLorean Time Machine series will soon be gracing toy-store shelves. It all started when some BTTF and Lego enthusiasts submitted the Time Machine designs to Lego Cussoo.

Porsche 356 Speedster up for Auction - Super Cars 2013

Classic Porsche roadster up for auction with stunning black body, black top and black interior. The 911 may be the most iconic of Porsches, but for many of the marque's faithful, the 356 Speedster is the most enduring classic from Zuffenhausen's considerable history. Designed by the company founder's son Ferry Porsche in 1948, the 356 went on to rack up numerous motor racing trophies, winning hill-climbs, rallies and even its class at Le Mans in 1951. Identifying a winning package, New York-based dealer Max Hoffman imported an initial run of fifteen Speedsters in 1954 and America fell in love.

Murdered-Out M3 on HRE Wheels - Super Cars 2013

Satin charcoal one-piece alloys complete this M3s blacked-out look. HRE Performance Wheels recently teamed up with Norwegian tuner ESS Tuning to create this bespoke murdered-out E92-gen BMW M3 coupe, and without revealing the technical upgrades ESS Tuning incorporated into the build, we do know the Californian custom wheel-maker provided a set of its HRE P43SC alloys finished in Satin Charcoal, complementing the M3's blacked-out look. Like all of HRE's new wheels, these P43SC monoblock one-piece alloys were built to spec out of aerospace-grade forged aluminum.

(Seriously, we couldn't make that up.)

Unique of the Week: 1970 Datsun Bluebird SSS Coupe - Super Cars 2013

Japanese automakers have always had a few tricks of their sleeves when it comes to performance, and this 1970 Datsun Bluebird SSS is no exception. Datsun is a brand name that's likely much more familiar to Baby Boomers than Millennials. It renamed itself Nissan in 1981. With the exception of car fans, Datsun is a name with little to no meaning. But for us, memories of the original Z car immediately flash to mind and how the Japanese automaker built that wonderful sports car that's still a favorite to many after all these years. Another classic Datsun that holds special memories for many brand loyalists and enthusiasts is the Bluebird.

4 Tempting Tuned Audi Avants - Super Cars 2013

Why bother calling it a station wagon when Avant sounds so much better? Whenever the words "station wagon" are used, memories of childhood summer vacations often come to peoples' minds. However, Audi isn't an automaker that messes around with its cars and the "W" word is just too uncool for. Instead, Audi calls its extended-roof models Avant. However, these are high-performance machines that are appropriate for any enthusiast with a family and stuff to haul around. Tuning also helps give them an even better performance edge, making your mom's old wagon look even more out of place. more at CarBuzz: Infiniti Previews New Q50 Ahead of Detroit DebutPorsche Mixes it Up with New CaymanTop 5 Nissan Juke-R Videos Popular German tuner ABT Sportsline is certainly no stranger to making a good Audi even better. This time it has turned its attention to the new 2013 Audi RS4 Avant. By simply removing the car's electronic speed limiter, Abt has raised the wagon's available top speed to 180 mph. Other upgrades include a new stainless-steel exhaust system that helps to give the 4.2-liter V8 an even more dramatic engine note. Power output is left untouched over the stock model, coming in at 450 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque.

eBay Motors Reveals its Best-Sellers - Super Cars 2013

Sales on the popular auction website continue to boom, with the Ford Mustang being the most widely sold model for 2012. There isn't a car enthusiast out there who hasn't spent at least some time scrolling through eBay Motors in search of a great or rare find. Trust us, it can become highly addictive. Along with all of the unusual and unique cars that are displayed on the popular online auction site, there are still a few models that are noticeably more popular than others. As 2012 wraps up, eBay Motors has announced the most popular makes and models that have gone up for auction over the past year.

Top 5 Nissan Juke-R Videos - Super Cars 2013

From street races with supercars to track battles with the GT-R, we've collated some of the best Juke-R videos circulating cyberspace. We have come to love the Nissan Juke-R. The ultimate street-sleeper combines the tall-hatch body of a Nissan Juke with the soul of a Nissan GT-R, and while the original concept packed a 478-hp punch, Nissan recently upped the muscle in the limited production-run Juke-R to 545 hp by fitting the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 from the 2012 GT-R. The first model recently sold for £400,000, and while its owner will doubtless be en route to the Autobahn to flog the potent crossover from 0-62 in three seconds flat and onto a top speed of 170 mph, we'll have to make do with looking at some awesome footage. Car and Driver wanted to see how the Juke-R would fair against the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, so they took the cars to the Bedford Autodrome. The Juke-R used in this video is based on the older 485-horsepower setup. Jethro Bovingdon felt it was more aggressive than the GT-R, although perhaps a tad on the heavy side. In arguably the most famous Juke-R video in cyberspace, Nissan's GT Academy winner Lucas Ordonez pilots the Juke-R to victory in a supercar street battle with a Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 458 Italia and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Multiple camera footage showcases the Juke-R's awesome performance capabilities. Shot by award-winning director Rob Kaplan, "Nissan Juke-R: Desert Nemesis" follows Lucas Ordonez during the aforementioned Dubai showdown, which takes place at a tightly designed make-shift 0.58km street track in Dubai on the sidelines of the 24-Hour endurance race held there. Here the Juke-R challenges its mechanical sister the GT-R on the track. The Juke-R put up a valiant fight, coming up just 1.3 seconds short of the GT-R, which is impressive considering the Juke-R used was the original 485-hp version and the GT-R was the new 545-hp unit. Here perennial supercar spotter Marchettino rides shotgun in the Juke-R while Italian F1 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi did a couple of quick laps around a wet and cold track. The 3-minute video is a mix of onboard and exterior footage, giving us a comprehensive look at the crazy crossover accelerating, powersliding and drifting from a range of angles.

Honda Promises 2013 Civic is Fixed - Super Cars 2013

Honda's popular Civic suffered a major blow last year when the redesigned model didn't meet expectations. But can the heavily updated 2013 version repair the damage? By now most everyone knows that the redesigned 2012 Honda Civic was a colossal failure. Not only was its exterior design uninspiring, but its interior materials were subpar, overall fit and finish was well below modern standards and it drove like an old Dodge Stratus. Honda took a lot of heat for its cost-cutting measures, even from Consumer Reports, which refused to recommend the Civic and placed it at the bottom of its segment due to its "excessive road noise and poor interior quality." Yes, we're still describing a Honda here, if you can believe it. Honda had no choice but to order an emergency redesign of the Civic for 2013 if it wanted any chance to regain its dignity. The following new commercial for the Civic can be interpreted as being a public apology for the sorry 2012 model while showcasing the new one. We doubt Honda will allow a screw-up like that to happen again.

Tug of War: Duramax vs Touareg - Super Cars 2013

Two very different diesel trucks hitch up for a torque showdown. As far as torquey diesel trucks go, they don't come much different than a Chevy Silverado and a Volkswagen Touareg. One's a work-a-day domestic pickup, the other a luxury import SUV. So how do you compare the two? With a little game of tug-of-war, naturally. That's what a few rednecks put together in this video clip. In one corner is a Silverado 2500HD, which in its latest form packs a Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 with 397 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque. In the other is the Touareg V10 TDI, packing a 5.0-liter, ten-cylinder turbodiesel with 345 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. As Volkswagen demonstrated a few years ago, the Touareg V10 is capable of pulling a jumbo jet, but with less power and torque than the Duramax, is it able to overcome?

Slot Car Ignites Hydrogen Balloon - Super Cars 2013

Toy cars? Explosions? Super-slow motion video footage? What else could you ask for? Slot cars can be fun for a while, but they're limited to what they can do: basically, they drive round and round the same track, and maybe fly off if you squeeze the throttle trigger too much. But that's about it. Right? That's what we thought until we came across this little video clip. Someone filled an ordinary balloon with hydrogen, tied it in front of a ramp on a slot car track, and affixed a lit sparkler to the slot car (which to our eyes looks like a miniature version of an Ascari A10). The result? A rather impressive ball of flame, shot in super-slow motion at 3,000 frames per second. It's about as cool as slot cars get, so check it out in the clip below. Gazoo Bringing Rebodied Twincharged GT86 to Tokyo - Super Cars 2013

We didn't think the GT86 needed a rebody, but Toyota' Japanese racing division apparently did. If you've seen a Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ on the street (as this writer did this morning), you've probably thought to yourself that it looks even better in person than it does in pictures. But someone evidently thinks it can improve on the sportscar's design. That someone, in this case, is Gazoo Racing, one of Toyota's many motorsport divisions, which is bringing a rebodied and mechanically tweaked 86 (as the FR-S is known in Japan) to the Tokyo Auto Salon in a couple of weeks.

Suzuki Bringing Two Concepts to Tokyo - Super Cars 2013

Suzuki's new concepts that will debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon are basically styling package ideas for its Wagon R box-mobile. Despite the recent announcement that Suzuki will no longer be selling its cars in the US (its motorcycle, ATV and marine vehicle dealer network remaining unaffected), the Japanese automaker is still very popular in other global markets, particularly in Asia and India. As such, Suzuki has just announced that it will be unveiling two new concept models based on its Wagon R at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon, Japan's equivalent to SEMA or the Essent Motor Show.

Infiniti Previews New Q50 Ahead of Detroit Debut - Super Cars 2013

Brief teaser clip shows us the headlamp and engine note of the new Infiniti Q50, set to replace the G37 and take on the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Lexus IS. Infiniti has released a brief teaser clip of a new vehicle it is set to unveil at the Detroit Auto Show on January 14. We don't know at this point whether it'll be a concept or a production model, but Infiniti is calling it the Q50. Replacing the G37 sedan (pictured), the new Q50 is expected to borrow underpinnings from Mercedes-Benz. Sources expect a V6 engine with possible direct injection, upheld by the engine note in the video clip. Otherwise all you see is the aggressive shape of the headlight. The Q50 nameplate falls into the brand's new nomenclature, replacing its previous alphanumeric naming scheme that combined a letter (conveying the model line) and two digits (representing the engine capacity). Instead new cars will bear the letter Q, and SUVs the letters QX, with the two digits to follow indicating the position in the brand's lineup.

Volkswagen Planning AWD Polo R? - Super Cars 2013

VW separates its GTI hot hatches from its R models with all-wheel drive, yet the limited-edition Polo R is a front-driver. Could that change with a new run? Aside from the extra power, what differentiates the Volkswagen Golf R from the GTI is all-wheel drive. But when VW made a special edition Polo R to celebrate its foray into the World Rally Championship, the hot hatch was forced to channel its 220 horses to the front wheels alone, not all four as previously reported. But that could change. Volks is only building 2,500 examples of the Polo R WRC edition, but once those are sold off, the German automaker could easily create another run, but this time give it all-wheel drive.

Plane Crashes into Highway in Russia - Super Cars 2013

We've seen plenty of Russian car crashes captured on dash-mounted cameras, but nothing quite like this plane crashing onto a highway. We've gotten to know Russia a bit better over the past year or so thanks to the obsession people have there with dash-mounted cameras. We've seen all sorts of accidents, ranging from pure stupidity to very serious collisions. But we haven't seen anything quite like this recently-posted video. Coming directly from Moscow, the footage captured by the driver of this car shows a horrific plane crash after the jetliner unsuccessfully tried to land at the airport. Reports indicate that at least four people on the plane were killed. The impact of the crash sent debris all over the highway and the driver here was lucky none of it slammed directly into his car. The plane itself was reportedly split into a few pieces. The cause for the crash is still being investigated.

5 Embarrassing Family Cars - Super Cars 2013

Even for young children, these family cars are not only downright ugly but can potentially cause serious mental problems later in life. Many of us suffered from outright embarrassment as youngsters due to the cars our parents chose to buy. For whatever reason, people often overlook the vital elements of what makes a car visually respectable in the delusionary spirit of "buying something different." That's all well and good, but not when the car can potentially cause childhood trauma. So we've put our heads together here at CarBuzz to come up with this list of some of the most embarrassing family cars in recent years. more at CarBuzz: Aventador Gets New Vellano RimsTug of War: Duramax vs TouaregHonda Promises 2013 Civic is Fixed Toyota Previa: When Chrysler launched its all-new minivan lineup back in 1984, the rest of the auto industry was left stunned and stranded. For the most part, automakers simply didn't have a proper competitor to the Dodge Caravan, so many struggled to come up with something that wasn't a direct copy. The Previa, launched in 1990, was Toyota's second answer. The first was the VW Minibus-like Toyota Van. But the Previa was even more painful on the eyes with its bubble-like appearance. Its engine was set far back from the nose, and was available with all-wheel-drive. Toyota thought it had something unique to offer. It didn't, and was discontinued in 1997.

Maserati Tests Quattroporte at Balocco - Super Cars 2013

New Quattroporte hits the test track under the cover of darkness and a little duct tape. Automakers have been known to release images (whether moving or still) of their prototypes still wearing camouflage while undergoing testing. Maserati is not one of them, but the Italian automaker has broken with that tradition by releasing this little clip. The video shows the new Quattroporte running at the Balocco Proving Grounds, the Fiat Group's main testing facility in Italy's Piedmont region. Maserati test driver Fabrizio Galvan gets behind the wheel and in front of the camera to tell us how the new QP differs from the last one. The prototype testing under cover of the night is only wearing minimal camouflage in the form of some black tape, but it hardly matters at this point since the car has already been revealed in full.

Nissan GT-R by Jotech Motorsports - Super Cars 2013

Brazilian customer orders up a flex-fuel GT-R with as much as 600 horsepower. Squeezing 530 horsepower out of a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6, Nissan has done a lot with the Nissan GT-R. But there's still more potential to be extracted, prompting a wide range of aftermarket tuners to lay their hands on the Japanese supercar known as Godzilla. The latest is Jotech Motorsports, which has tuned this GT-R for a customer in Brazil. The South American country has an abundance of ethanol available, so Jotech equipped the Nissan supercar for E85 flex-fuel capability.

Aventador Gets New Vellano Rims - Super Cars 2013

How does one make the Lamborghini Aventador look even better than it already is? It's not easy, but a new set of forged wheels and a matte black finish just might do the trick. There's not much that can be done to improve the looks of the Lamborghini Aventador. Anyone who's seen the car in person will know that pictures simply don't do it justice. It is truly a breathtaking design from every angle. Packing a 6.5-liter V12 with nearly 700 horsepower driving all four wheels through a unique independent shift rod sequential transmission, the Aventador is everything a supercar should be and so much more. But Vellano has designed a set of forged wheels that makes this fighting bull look even fiercer.

VIA Motors to debut three extended-range EVs in Detroit - Latest Automobile News

VIA Motors to debut three extended-range EVs in Detroit

Details are scarce but VIA claims the first two vehicles will be a technology-packed luxury four-wheel drive SUV and a full-size van that can seat up to 12 passengers. Surprisingly, the third one will be a full-size all-wheel drive pickup truck powered by an 800 horsepower drivetrain.

Although the company has yet to confirm this, all three cars are likely based off of existing General Motors products and fitted with VIA's own V-DRIVE electric technology.

VIA's upcoming vehicles perfectly reflect the company's philosophy.

"These three new offerings demonstrate VIA's commitment to electrify the top-selling vehicles that use the most gas and can therefore benefit the most from converting to low-cost electric fuel, while at the same time, reducing more emissions to benefit the communities they serve," said VIA's president Alan Perriton.

A full set of details about the gasoline-electric trio will be unveiled in the next couple of weeks.

Bentley's range-topping Continental Speed GTC leaked - Latest Automobile News

Bentley's range-topping Continental Speed GTC leaked

The GTC Speed gains the same exterior modifications that are found on the coupe. These include a dark mesh grille, rifled exhaust pipes, chrome tail lamp bezels and model-specific 21-inch alloys.

The car's interior stays in line with Bentley's Mulliner Driving Specification package and includes alloy pedals and engine-turned aluminum trim on the dashboard and the center console. Alternatively, the aluminum can be replaced with carbon fiber, and buyers who are after a more classic look can opt for several wood finishes.

The Speed GTC is almost certainly equipped with the same 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine that is found under the hood of its two-door sibling. The mill sends 616 horsepower and 590 lb-ft. of torque to all four wheels via an eight-speed close-ratio automatic transmission manufactured by ZF. A Torsen limited-slip differential keeps the power in check under even the most extreme conditions.

Performance specifications are not currently available but early estimates claims the car will take just four seconds to sprint from zero to 60 mph and reach a top speed of over 200 mph.

More pictures and a complete set of details about the Bentley Continental GTC Speed will be available next week. div.post-content1 ul li { list-style:disc !important; margin-left:20px; color:#000000; } div.post-content1 ol li { list-style-type: decimal !important; margin-left:20px; color:#000000; } #editorial_graph ul li { list-style:none !important; margin-left:0px; }

Toyota forecasts record sales in 2013 - Latest Automobile News

Toyota forecasts record sales in 2013

The Japanese automaker says that its sales - which include subsidiaries Hino Motors and Diahatsu - could top 9.91 million new cars in 2013, a gain over the 9.7 million it anticipates for 2012. Either way, Toyota should take the global sales crown two years in a row since it's on track to best General Motors and Volkswagen in 2012.

That growth will come from Toyota's overseas markets since the automaker is predicting a 15 percent slide in demand in its home market of Japan. Toyota's home market forecast is more pessimistic than that of most analysts, although all agree that the Japanese new car market will contract a bit because government-backed incentives promoting the purchase of fuel-efficient cars expired in September.

Globally, Toyota is predicting sales of 7.87 million new cars, an 8 percent increase. That should counter the 15 percent dip to 2.04 million expected in Japan.

One market that remains something of a mystery for Toyota is China, where an anti-Japanese sentiment spurred by a territorial dispute between the two countries has kept buyers out of showrooms. Though Toyota - and other Japanese automakers - have seen consumer interest increase over the last couple of months after it plummeted earlier this year, sales aren't likely to recover for a while. As a result, Toyota hasn't confirmed a sales target for the world's largest new car market. div.post-content1 ul li { list-style:disc !important; margin-left:20px; color:#000000; } div.post-content1 ol li { list-style-type: decimal !important; margin-left:20px; color:#000000; } #editorial_graph ul li { list-style:none !important; margin-left:0px; }

France's Peugeot won't consider merger with GM's Opel - Latest Automobile News

France's Peugeot won't consider merger with GM's Opel

An unnamed Peugeot manager told France's Autogazette that PSA, the parent company of Peugeot and Citroen, will go it alone despite significant hurdles to recovering in the struggling European new car market.

"[A merger] has never been an issue during the discussions," Peugeot's German market chief, Olivier Dardart, said in response to a question about how far the alliance between the two brands has begun to stretch.

"The point [of the alliance] is not to reduce personnel," he said.

PSA and GM's Opel division have begun working together on a number of compact and subcompact models as part of an expanded partnership. Both PSA and Opel have seen sales and profitability tumble as a result of a volatile new car market in Europe. Neither automaker has as significant a presence globally as Volkswagen, which has insulated the German automaker from woes in its home market.

Last week, both automakers canned an effort to build a midsize model that might have made its way - in one shape or form - to the North American market. div.post-content1 ul li { list-style:disc !important; margin-left:20px; color:#000000; } div.post-content1 ol li { list-style-type: decimal !important; margin-left:20px; color:#000000; } #editorial_graph ul li { list-style:none !important; margin-left:0px; }
