New Mazda RX-7 to launch by 2017 - Cars Wallpapers

New Mazda RX-7 to launch by 2017
MX-5 program manager Nobuhiro Yamamoto revealed to Car News that Mazda is working on a new RX-7 that will be lighter, more powerful and more fuel efficient than the discontinued RX-8.

Yamamoto, who served as the powertrain manager for the previous RX-7 and also designed the Le Mans-winning Mazda 787B's Wankel motor, said the car will use Mazda's next-generation 16X rotary engine. Whereas the RX-8's 1.3-liter Renesis mill made 232 horsepower, Yamaoto indicated that the 16X will displace 1.6 liters and produce around 300 horsepower in naturally aspirated form (a turbo variant is a possibility down the road).

Thanks to special catalytic converters and combustion principles borrowed from Mazda's SkyActiv technology, the motor should be emissions-compliant around the globe and also boast improved fuel economy compared to the thirsty Renesis. However, Yamaoto said that Mazda would not consider adding a hybrid system as Acura has with the reborn NSX.

"For a pure sportscar, it must be internal combustion," Yamaoto said.

Aluminum will be used extensively in the RX-7's bodyshell, helping keep weight down to about the same 2800 lbs. as the Scion FR-S/ Subaru BRZ. A stretched version of the next-generation MX-5 Miata's platform will likely underpin the RX-7, and the car will be a two-seater in all markets except for Japan, where it will feature a pair of diminutive rear seats.

While it's still too early in the development process for anything close to exact pricing details, Yamaoto did say that the new RX-7 will fall between Nissan's 370Z and GT-R sports cars in terms of MSRP - indicating that the car will definitely be more expensive than the RX-8.

Automakers pitch in to provide relief for victims of Superstorm Sandy - Cars Wallpapers

Automakers pitch in to provide relief for victims of Superstorm Sandy
VW Group of America also contributed $500,000. The National Automobile Dealers Association also promised $1 million as a way of starting off a national fund-raising campaign for the Emergency Relief Fund of the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation, according to Autonews. The fund will be tailored to help dealership employees affected by national disasters.

Chevrolet said it has donated 50 trucks, each packing 300 OnStar calling minutes and three months of turn-by-turn navigation service for no charge. During the storm, OnStar opened up features for one million subscribers in impacted zones free of charge.

Toyota will also match any employee contributions to the American Red Cross and other non-profit organizations assisting victims on top of the $1 million.

Fisker Automotive, which saw its products take a beating from the storm, will let power utility trucks and repair crews use its Wilmington, Delaware factory as a home base to aid in their efforts.

Ford C-Max outsells Prius v in October
Ford sold 3,182 units of the C-Max Hybrid in October, besting the Toyota Prius v and its 2,769 sales during the month.

"The new C-MAX is off to a fast start in the heart of the hybrid market, not only outselling Prius v, but drawing a lot of interested Toyota customers who chose our new hybrid instead," said C.J. O'Donnell, manager, Ford Electrified Vehicles.

According to Ford, more than 70 percent of C-Max buyers either traded in a competitive model or purchased the hybrid without trading in another vehicle. About 25 percent of all C-Max Hybrids have been sold in California.

The Ford C-Max Hybrid is rated at 47mpg combined, which is 7mpg better than the Toyota Prius v.

Retro-styled Honda N-One city car goes on sale in Japan - Cars Wallpapers

Retro-styled Honda N-One city car goes on sale in Japan
The car is too small for U.S. sales, and it's not meant for European consumption either, Automobile wrote. It borrows design elements from another Honda microcar, the 1967 N360. Both are upright, flat-sided, and sport round headlights, and small taillights mounted midway.

The car can be had with LED interior and exterior lighting, xenon headlights, and a two-tone paint job. The interior maximizes space thanks to a fold-flat Magic Seat system like the one used in the Fit. The gas tank is in the center of the car. A new feature for the segment and Honda is an Emergency Stop Signal safety system that will automatically activate the four-way flashers when the brakes are suddenly applied.

Aa for the mechanical bits, Honda uses the same engine and powertrain as Honda's N Box and N Box +. A CVT sends engine power (up to 64 in the turbo model) to either the front or all four wheels (turbo only). The naturally aspirated models are rated at the equivalent of 63.5MPG as per Japanese standards. At 133.3 inches long, it's nearly three inches shorter than Fiat's 500, though sports a longer wheelbase.

Pricing starts at 1,150,000 yen (about $14,375) with a Premium model with a higher-quality interior and a dressed-up exterior going for 1,390,000 yen (nearly $17,260). There are 11 solid colors on offer along with five two-tone combinations.

Jaguar creates heritage-inspired speedboat - Cars Wallpapers

Jaguar creates heritage-inspired speedboat
Although far from the brand's typical line of work, the 20-foot Concept Speedboat features a number of design cues from Jaguar's storied past. For example, the carbon fiber fin that runs the length of the boat was inspired by the iconic Jaguar D-Type. Even the look of the boat's fuel filler cap is intended to mimic the design of the unit used on the Series 1 XJ.

"We recognize that both our existing and future customers enjoy diverse and active lifestyles," Callum said. "With the launch of the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake, we had an opportunity to create a vision of how our design philosophy might be applied to an alternative product, in which speed and beauty are also priorities."

"The Concept Speedboat looks powerful. It follows, in so many ways, the idea of a traditional speedboat but with the sleek and fast characteristics that you would expect from a Jaguar Car."

Thanks to an available 275 horsepower, 443 lb-ft of torque 3.0L diesel V6, the Jaguar XF Sportbrake can tow up to 4,000 pounds. However, Jaguar failed to mention what engine powers the Concept Speedboat.

Romney's Jeep comments spark Twitter battle between Donald Trump and Ralph Gilles - Cars Wallpapers

Romney's Jeep comments spark Twitter battle between Donald Trump and Ralph Gilles
The spat between Trump and Gilles started last Thursday when Trump took to the Twittersphere to chime in on Romney's statement that Jeep is planning to shift all production to China. Although Romeny's claim was totally off base, Trump used that false information as an opportunity to bash both President Obama and Chrysler via his personal Twitter account.

"Obama is a terrible negotiator. He bails out Chrysler and now Chrysler wants to send all Jeep manufacturing to China--and will!," Trump Tweeted.

Shortly thereafter, Gilles responded to Trump without mincing words. "You are full of (expletive)!," he wrote.

The battle continued on Friday with Trump Tweeting, "Looks like @RalphGilles is full of it. @dcexaminer: "Jeep, an Obama favorite, looks to shift production to China," referring to the title of an article published by the Washington Examiner last month.

Gilles responded once more, Tweeting: "@realDonaldTrump @dcexaminer as a business man you should understand the concept of localization. BTW We're expanding our Toledo Jeep plant!"

Collapse of Australian supplier could halt production at Ford, GM - Cars Wallpapers

Collapse of Australian supplier could halt production at Ford, GM
Australia's Autodom Ltd. was recently forced to close two production plants, which could impact production facility operated by Ford and GM' Holden unit as early as next week. Autodom cited financial problems as the reason for the plant closures.

Although new car sales have been steadily recovering in the United States, Australia's auto industry has struggled to bounce back from the global economic slowdown. The Australian government has tried to prop the industry will billions in aide, but both automakers and suppliers continue to deal with lower demand.

Autodom CEO Calvin Stead says the perfect storm of a strong Australian dollar, high labor costs and overcapacity lead to the company's demise.

Autodom is scrambling to reopen its factories, but the company has indicated that local players have so far been unhelpful in that goal. If no solution is found, it could affect production facilities operated by Ford and GM within a matter of days.

Of the two, Ford would be the hardest hit by a supply issue. Ford relies on Autodom for hundreds of components for its Falcon sedan and Territory SUV.

"We are currently assessing what effect it will have on our production," Ford Australia spokeswoman Sinead Phipps told Reuters. "We are okay until the middle of next week, but if it's not resolved it could potentially affect our production then."

Production of GM's Holden Commodore and Cruze models are threaten by the shutdown of Autodom.

Accord and CR-Z Display 'True Grit' - Race Cars News

A couple of visually enhanced Accords are one thing. A supercharged 189 horsepower CR-Z concept is another matter entirely. Gone are models such as the S2000 roadster and more compact (read: sportier and more fun to drive) Accords with their replacements nowhere to be seen. However, if its SEMA display cars are anything to go by, Honda has taken note of that criticism and is working on putting things right. 5 Luxury Lamborghini Commercials - Race Cars News

Needless to say, Lamborghini does commercials a little differently than other automakers. You don't make typical car commercials when you're in the business of building cars that sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Lamborghini commercials typically have long run times, big budgets and cool special effects. These ads aren't as funny as clever as the mass-produced car commercials from larger automakers, but they do a great job at selling the Lamborghini lifestyle. Continue below if you've ever wondered what videos run on loop in Lamborghini showrooms. This ad proves that the Aventador LP700-4 is the go-to vehicle during any and all earthquakes. Don't be shocked if first responders around the world use this commercial as an excuse to purchase Lamborghinis. The life of a Gallardo owner is one of cutting lines, picking up women and being a general stud-if this ad is to be believed. The life of a Lamborghini owner doesn't seem so bad, aside from the semi-creepy photographer whose job it is to follow you around and take pictures of your car. How Lamborghini managed to find blocks and blocks of traffic-free streets in NYC is a mystery that has yet to be solved. This ad is a little on the artsy side (no earthquakes) but is still solid. Lamborghini ditches the black and white lens filters and sweeping scenery shots in favor of clever humor in this commercial. The result is a clever and cheeky commercial that doesn't make Lamborghini owners look like rich d-bags. Fans of art house car commercials will love this Gallardo spot. What does a scorpion have to do with a supercar, you ask? If you have to ask you'll, never know.
